Who We Are
GracePoint Chinese Presbyterian Church is located in Lidcombe and Bonnyrigg, Sydney. We are a “cell group” church and we serve the local Chinese in three languages (English, Mandarin and Cantonese). Our Chinese Congregation and English Congregation run independently but collaboratively to spread the Gospel to the different generations of Chinese people.
“Faith in the Gospel. Love one another. Care about the community.”
Denomination and Faith
Our church is an Australian Presbyterian church. We are a full member church of the NSW Assembly and Hawksbury Presbytery.
The Supreme Standard of our church is the Word of God contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. The Subordinate Standard of our church is the Westminster Confession of Faith. For more details please visit NSW Assembly website (click here).
Our Brief History
In 1998, a group of members from Chinese Presbyterian Church, Sydney (CPC) went to Burwood with Rev. Dennis Law and five elders to start a new extension through partnership with St James Presbyterian Church.
In 1999, the Burwood extension became an independent church called Burwood Chinese Presbyterian Chruch (BCPC) with the blessings of CPC and approval of the Presbytery.
In 2004, as the venue was unable to accommodate the increasing number of people, a decision was agreed in the Annual General Meeting to look for a site to build a new church building. Eventually we found the current Lidcombe location to obtained approval from the Council.
In 2011, the construction was completed. Our church was renamed as GracePoint Chinese Presbyterian Church (GCPC) when we moved in to the new venue to remember that it was done by the grace of God. At the same time, Burwood Service Centre was established as an extension service of GCPC.
In the beginning of 2013, Burwood Service Centre became independent from GCPC and was renamed as Chinese Presbyterian Church, Burwood (CPCB).
In 2014, Senior Minister Rev. Dennis Law retired. Rev C.S. Tang became our Interim Moderator and he appointed Rev. Edwin Kwok as the Lead Pastor of the Chinese Congregation.
In 2016, GCPC was authorised by the Presbytery to take up the ministries of Bonnyrigg Christian Church (which was a member of Hawkesbury Presbytery). Since then the Bonnyrigg Church has become part of GCPC and it is our base in South West Sydney for evangelical ministries.
In 2017, GCPC was transferred from Sydney Presbytery to Hawksbury Presbytery due to location reason. Therefore Rev. John McClean has become the Interim Moderator since 2017.
